He made it to 90, and from what I've heard, he was in pretty good shape mentally. I was having a discussion with the owner of a small camera repair shop here in town last Friday, it's pretty much the only non-Wal Mart/Best Buy store that sells cameras here, and we were discussing how we got interested in classical music. As it turns out, I was born on Beethoven's birthday. I have become quite a fan of Ludwig's, though my taste runs more to the baroque and quartet areas. Likewise, Clarke was also a December 16 baby, and I know 2001 and Rendezvous With Ranma, sorry, Rama, was among the early scifi books that I read, along with the Foundation series.

We'll miss ya, Sir Arthur. Ya done good.

And when I said, "My god, it's full of stars!" a couple of people knew what I was referencing. I should dig up a few of his books to re-read.

The "best" person to share my birthday is Margaret Thatcher. That's slightly more amusing for reasons related to names.
