At work I got a call Monday AM from the help desk. They'd restored an Access database for a user and it was corrupt, they wanted to know if I could do anything with it. I told them about the compact & repair function and eventually the help desk tech found the menu option and ran it (he was running Access 2007) but it didn't do any good -- the MDB was still corrupt. He copies it to a share that I'm linked to and I try a repair under Access 2003, still no good -- the MDB is truly FUBAR'd. So I suggest he restores an earlier version of the file, perhaps the user can live with a little data loss in return for most data returned.

There were no other copies. There was only one copy captured by our multi-generational backup system. Why?

The user deleted administrator access to the share where the file was located. Therefore, the backup program couldn't access the share.

Unholster pistol, point at foot, squeeze trigger. Repeat until magazine is empty.
