Came across this on Yahoo's front page a little earlier today:

Strong showing for racy film

A controversial movie might have gone No. 1 this weekend if it weren't for its title and subject matter.

The movie that they're talking about is, no surprise here, Zack and Miri Make A Porno, Kevin Smith's latest film. So what they're saying is: if you'd made a different movie, it might have done better.

*facepalm*

In the words of the Bard, DUH!

"Gee, Mister Lucas, maybe if your movie wasn't set in space and boiled down to a massive good versus evil battle based on Westerns and samurai movies, maybe it would have done better."

"Gee, Mister Jackson, maybe if your movie wasn't set in a mythical world based on post-World War II English literature, maybe it would have won more awards.

*headdesk*

To briefly break away from this terminal stupidity, I saw Zack and Miri Saturday afternoon. Amusingly, it was labeled just that, Zack and Miri, on the theater's web site and on the tickets. There's a theater chain in Utah that won't show it, but they have no problem showing Saw 5. Kinda shows you where a lot of the country's problems are.

Anyway, Z&M is a very fun film. Zack & Miri share an apartment, strictly platonic, and are having a terrible time making ends meet. The day before Thanksgiving, their water and electricity are shut off. In Pittsburg. After some deliberation, Zack comes up with the idea of making a cheap porno, having gotten an email list of 800 classmates at their high school reunion, believing that it was a guaranteed 800 sales.

The movie is an adult romantic comedy. There's simulated sex in it, but not explicit sex, thus avoiding the NC-17 rating. Think of the most stupid pornographic movie that you've ever seen, and make it even more stupider as produced by Jay & Silent Bob. That comes close to Z&M. There's male and female full frontal nudity, but not of the two leads. Unless Kevin Smith snuck in to a crowd scene, he's not in it. That's right, a Kevin Smith film with no Jay & Silent Bob. But Jason Mewes makes more than an appearance in it, his character is a slightly less stoned Jay with a touch of the profundity of Silent Bob.

Oh, Jeff Anderson is in it (Randall from Clerks etc.), also Tracy Lords(!) plays Bubbles!

I enjoyed it. I recommend it if you like Kevin Smith movies and don't mind huge amounts of profanity. The only thing that I didn't care for was that Kevin Smith seems to be reusing dialog a bit much for my taste, he needs to expand his phrase files.

Anyway, if you'd like to write a "Gee" response, I'd love to read 'em. Come to think of it, I should post this in Mock The Stupid, I think it rates.
