American manga collector pleads guilty to possession of child porn manga

Yep, cartoon characters can get you sent to prison. The guy was a broad-based manga collector and did not collect only series that depicted child porn, but that didn't matter in court. His big problem is that since he plead guilty, that kind of limits the appeals process since he admitted guilt. Presumably it was part of a plea bargain, but it still sounds like he'll be a registered sex offender in the end.

Yes to registered sex offender, and yes, it was a plea, because taking one count is better than being convicted of four - the "peers" selected for a jury like that would probably convict on kiddie porn even though it was drawings and not real children.
