Apparently, when the classified becomes declassified, everyone will be like "Wow! They protected us from so much! We don't mind the land war in Asia or the erosion of freedoms or the torture, we were safe."

Lying to the populace out of the office is just as bad as the lying done within the office.

Very good article, Tom. Thanks! It's amazing how many intelligence opportunities are lost up and down the lines. I started reading the Wikipedia entry recently on the debate as to whether or not there was sufficient advanced knowledge that Japan was going to attack Pearl Harbor in '41, some interesting stuff there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearl_Harbor_advance-knowledge_debate
