Curses, foiled again!

thewayneI was SOOOO disappointed.
Today I had a PET/CT scan in Las Cruces. It was quite exciting, i.e., I slept through it. Apparently they do both so that the computer can map the PET imaging on top of the CT scan. Well, it involves having a radioactive tracer injected in to me. In case you don't live near a border patrol inspection station, they now have scanning equipment that detects radiation.

I was really looking forward to seeing if my radioactivity would set off the detectors. In fact, when I mentioned it to the nurse who injected the tracer, he said the receptionist would give me a card saying that I had it as part of a medical procedure.
So tonight we drove back to Cloudcroft. I drive by the equipment, which appears to be working, and nary a visible peep. I pull up to the border patrol agent, and as we're pulling up, it looks like he's talking or listening to his radio microphone/speaker. I'm thinking "Great! They tagged me!"
No such luck. Just the standard "Are you U.S. citizens?" (to which I always reply "Da." (not really)) And we were on our way.
The stuff they use has a very short half-life and is shipped out same-day from Lubbock where it's made. Sadly, enough time had passed that I didn't get pounced on by a SWAT team for smuggling fissionables.
But at least I still have the Get Out of Border Patrol Jail Free card.
