After 9/11, Mr. Robertson was the one who said "I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way -- all of them who have tried to secularize America -- I point the finger in their face and say "You helped this happen."

There's a site which coined the word "idiotarian" specifically to refer to Pat Robertson and a few other parties. IOW, people whose grasp of reality is more than a little odd and vindictive.

Though Haiti really has had one of the nastiest histories in the Western Hemisphere. I'm not joking when I say that foreign aid may be a great step up in lifestyle for the survivors.

My wife and I were discussing the Haiti quake yesterday, she was telling me that their side of the island has had pretty much all of its trees cut down, the Dominican Republic side is still forested and is doing well economically.

I love that term, Idiotarian. Talk about a great label! Palin would definitely fit the odd side, not so much the vindictive right now.

Because there is no natural disaster that someone will not exploit or interpret to be God's wrath against a people. Also, what's up with the racism, Pat? Can't brown-skinned people just want to be free from oppressive ovrelords?

It's one of the most corrupt nations in the Western Hemisphere, if not the world, and one of its oddities is that there is such a level of graft and necessary bribery that it can take up to twenty years to transfer a piece of property. You can't sell something promptly, which means there are a lot of poor farmers sitting on land that is useless to them, but not to somebody else, and it doesn't do them any good. And I believe that there is a community of something like 20,000 living on a garbage dump in any sort of shelter they can scrounge.

At some point when you're feeling like a shot of depression, look up "Haiti cookie." It's basically a dirt cake, eaten when you've got nothing else.

I pray for Haiti. I can't really figure out what would fix it.
