The worst part about it is, the logic behind it is pretty sound. the law says this, thus we do this. The law is probably wrong and needs to be rewritten or repealed, but courts don't usually do that unless constitutional grounds are available, and the cruel and unusual punishment, while it makes sense to the rest of us, probably won't be to the justices.

*sigh* It seems these days the only way not to end up on a list of potential or actual criminals these days is to not do anything.
