And exactly what evidence is there that she's gay? Let's review. She's single. She has a gay haircut. She smokes cigars, drinks beer, plays poker, so obviously she's a butch dyke.

My wife maintains a fairly severe haircut, I know a number of women who do, and they're not gay.

I really ought to put a Google News alert on Fischer to see if he later gets caught for any sexual peccadilloes.

Michael Wolff has an article whether or not Kagan is gay that is a reprise of one he wrote regarding Sotomayor, musing whether she was guy. Written tongue in cheek, it was taken surprisingly seriously.

One thing that I find amusing is one of the arguments that people make against gay marriage, that you must have children, and gay people cannot (ignoring artificial insemination, for some reason). By that definition, my wife and I aren't married, and I can think of at least five other married couples that I know without children, including my 80+ y/o aunt. Having children is a choice, among other things, and the biological ability to have children does not make you a suitable parent, nor does the inability mean that you have a sham marriage.

Gee, maybe she does masculine things because she's in a still male-dominated profession, and she had to become "one of the guys" in order to get ahead? Maybe she's not married because her career was more important to her?

And personally, I wouldn't care if she were gay. It has no bearings on her qualifications (and if it's a question of bias, I don't think there's a judge up there who doesn't have some bias or another). But I'm a Bleeding-Heart Liberal (TM), so I clearly don't count. I am trying to Ruin the Country. Or something. By actually advocating equality.

My wife has the same problem. She has a doctorate in astrophysics and astronomy, the only PhD on her telescope, and she constantly runs in to the gender wall. I believe the papers that she's co-authored (over 80) she just uses her initials.

Everyone has biases, if they say they don't they're either lying or delusional. One comment that I read is that since she has not been a sitting judge, she doesn't have a paper trail of legal opinions, so they have to slice and dice something.


I found an article that I haven't finished reading yet on how can Christians be conservative. I'll post a link when I finish reading it, it's an opinion that I've carried for a long time and I'm looking forward to reading the points the writer makes.

We have two (human, not counting our darling furry babies) children and for many conservative Mormons we met in Utah, we counted neither as married nor as a family. So depending on the flavor of conservative religious we're talking about, even producing offspring doesn't make a "real" marriage.

...I believe we have hit a new low. News flash, Mr. Fischer - having one (or more) openly gay people in the Cabinet already hasn't brought about the end of existence. He's probably more scared that an actual LGBT person on the court would rule favorably toward LGBT people becoming real people in the eyes of the law.
