It was a really bad year for tech innovators dying. Next year, hopefully not so many move on to the afterlife projects?

It was indeed. My perspective is from a little different angle, in that I just turned 50 and started working with (actually playing with) computers around '74, so the people who invented those mainframes had to be born in the 1940's, so they're definitely getting up there. And there's no singularity yet, if there ever will be one, for them to be uploaded in to, so their creative genius and drive are lost.

I've worked with mainframes, mini computers (still do), microcomputers, the first generation IBM PC, and now I have a phone with 64 gig of ram and a display resolution that was inconceivable in the 70's. I have a 23" monitor that generates an insignificant amount of heat and weighs almost nothing compared to a CRT, a WiFi color laser printer, and wireless keyboard and trackpad. Tech is pretty cool.

Tech is very cool. Tech in the future will make our stuff look like primitive things. Wish I will live long enough to say it.
