Computer privacy and security seen as feudalism?

Some interesting arguments to be made that some of us swear our allegiance to specific vendors, assuming protection from our liege lord, but not having any say in how that protection is expressed.

That's pretty much how it goes here on the Internet. How I wish they had decided that interoperability would be a cite tenet of things on the Web, instead of just limited to the protocols that deliver the data...
