I guess they don't realize that birds poop and fish are also known to urinate. Clearly all reservoirs should be covered by an impermeable membrane and guarded with radar-guided machine guns. Clearly this teen is a terrorist and the full might of the law should be used against him. [/sarcasm]

I'll admit it's mildly disgusting, but 38 million gallons? It's totally undetectable.

The comments were interesting, talking about X tons of animal carcases that were likely in the reservoir. I guess it's not unlike the government inspectors allowing X parts per million of insect body parts in peanut butter.

Most likely. And I think there's a filtration system that the water would go through before getting to the pipes, too.

I'm not sure where reservoirs stand in the water treatment plant system. The systems that I'm familiar with have holding tanks after treatment before the water hits the muni pipe system.

I think the fresh reservoirs are spiders to be before final treatment and pipe-shipping, but I'm not an expert on the systems. It makes sense to do it that way, though.
