Department of Justice wants increased authority to hack computers

I can sympathize with them, when you're dealing with botnets and distributed enterprises and such, it can be hard to conduct an effective criminal investigation. But I don't know that giving them carte blanch to go on a hacking rampage is the solution.

I would think the Justice Department has everything they need, if they can trace an IP.

What, an IP doesn't have a one-to-one correspondence? Shocking.

When the Justice Department can be trusted not to be the lackeys of some other organization's agendas, then we can talk about expanded computer searching powers.
