"Carbon dating, all these things, really doesn't mean anything to a God who has the ability to create anything at any point in time."
—GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson, discussing his rejection of evolution theory

I didn't expect the hard-core lunacy quite this soon.

I don't expect him to last very long, but you never know.

Scary thing is, his point of view makes PERFECT sense to a fairly large number of Americans. Not enough to carry a national election or even a primary, or so we can hope. But plenty.

The thing that I find scary is that critical thinking is becoming an endangered concept. It's really scary how many people accept whatever is on TV or online as truth, without researching it.

Confirmation bias can be pretty amazingly strong. And thanks to media balkanization, if one doesn't want to hear anything that doesn't completely conform to one's own dearly-held worldview, one no longer has to.

That's entertainment!

So, how is living under the tyranny of martial law enforced by the US military working out for ya?

It is entertaining, but sadly, not very funny.

My wife had to work Sunday night and first half last night: the woman who was supposed to work was delayed flying back from Dallas. She says it was because of the weather, I KNOW it was probably because her papers weren't in order and the MPs wouldn't let her out.

Between martial law, the Ebola infected Guatemalan child immigrants and the ISIS invasion it's all we can do to carry on a perfectly normal life.

/me points out that an entity that can create anything at any point in time directly contradicts the idea of a young earth, because if the ages are accurate, that would mean something had to exist at that point, therefore Terra is as old as the scientists say it is.

I submit that the GOP has transitioned from being a political movement into an expression of performance art, intent on establishing at precisely what point candidates, espousing positions of variable sanity and/or plausibility, will cause their constituents to turn around and say, "Hold on.. that doesn't make a lick of sense."

I further submit that the date upon which this will be reached has not only not been estimated, but is not yet within calculable reach.

Now THAT is the thing that makes the most sense!

I was reading some more Carsonisms yesterday afternoon: he did an interesting twist on the Constitution saying that the President can ignore the Supreme Court because only the legislature passes legislation.

It's so sad that The Colbert Report is gone, and that Jon Stewart is leaving The Daily Show soon. At least we have Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on HBO. That dude is going to start raking in awards soon.
