"Yeah, she's really something, and what a beauty, that one. If I weren't legally married and, ya know, her father..."
—Trump on his daughter Ivanka

Can I have a loud chorus of "EWWWW!"?

Someone pointed out that were he not a [million|billion]aire that there'd be no way he'd be dating women like that.

I still love the comment that someone left on Charles Stross' blog: he started on third base and thinks he hit a triple.

The man definitely lives in his own world. The 'born on third base' quote is an old one, actually goes back to football coach Barry Switzer--but I can't think of anyone to whom it better applies at present. :)

But I don't know. I didn't watch the debate last night so I'll have to catch up on the highlights (and, more importantly, the lowlights), but I'm not yet convinced that Trump isn't massively trolling the GOP, sabotaging them by illuminating everything horrible about them and their base. I mean, he's basically a caricature of everything awful about the Republican Party, with no filter and no pretense of political correctness. He says what the rest of them think, but consider themselves too polished to actually say--and the base eats it up. I don't think Trump will go the distance, but the damage he's doing to the reputation of the party, such as it is--that will be his big accomplishment and his legacy. Which really does make me wonder if it's intentional.

I'm working my way through the recaps of last night's debate, I was in bed by 8:30 and didn't see any of it.

From what I can see, The Donald didn't score any great points and most everyone else did pretty good. One thing that he's gotten slammed on recently is his seeming ignorance of the Middle East and who the major players are. His response is "I'll know it all before I get in to office", and it's not flying as well anymore.

But that's always been his schtick, you know? He'll succeed by being an awesome negotiator where he knows what's what, and by hiring good people where he doesn't. Like Sarah Palin, apparently. Oy. And in doing so, he'll fix everything so fast your head will spin. 11 million illegals deported by week 2 of his adminsitration, no problem. Border wall up (on Mexico's dime, of course) by month 3. Easy-peasy! ISIS wiped out even faster. Peace in the Middle East, no worries. Haven't heard yet how he's going to fix climate change. Negotiating with the ice caps, I suppose?

This certainly doesn't surprise me. I don't know why we're taking him seriously now, when his personality hasn't shifted from the character we enjoy watching on his TV show.
