My previous post about the California county that just locked down again? Well, I received a comment from an LJ friend. I'm currently on my LOTRO gaming laptop, which I don't often blog from, I usually use my iMac. I go to reply to the comment, and LJ wants me to log in. OK, I did recently change my password, so for whatever reason, I decide to display my page and go straight to the comment.
And I can't see the post! Nor can I see any May posts! I was pretty sure I'd made the post public, as I do most of my posts.
I go back to DW, and sure enough, the post is public.
Here's my thought. By default, all my DW posts are private. I have to edit the post after posting it to set it to public. But at that point, it's already been sent to LJ. We just take it on faith that the edit will be sent, accepted, and posted.
I think the edits are getting dropped. Clearly my posts got through, but the edit that turns it public did not. Now, most of the time I don't edit my posts to change content - occasionally I do, but usually it's just to change the private/public access flag.
I don't think any posts are missing, just misflagged as private when they should almost universally be public.
It's not a big deal because my friends on LJ are on my access list, so they clearly see the posts, just people flitting about looking for new people to follow may get the mistaken impression that I'm not particularly active.
I think I should probably put a pinned post at the top of my account warning people about this, telling them to look to my DW account to see my latest public posts, and that if they friend me and I friend them back, which is entirely likely unless they're a Russian spam bot, they'll then see my LJ misflagged posts.
*sigh* Ain't computers wunnerful!
