I should have been keeping up with this. I really wanted to go to the CO Ren Fest, only to find out that it's happening RIGHT NOW through the end of July. The accrual rate of leave time with The City is much lower for the first year than it is at previous places for whom I've worked, and I'm using the one day that I have right now to fly to Phoenix Thursday afternoon for a game con. (we're planning on going to Maine over Labor Day to see Russet's mom)

I'm pretty much ready to go for the Phoenix Con, just need to throw in my cell charger and toiletries and I'm good. From here it's an hour drive to El Paso to catch the flight, no biggie there. I'm taking a bunch of small card games, like O Solo Mio, and two of my own: Sucks To Be Me and Critter Capture. Not scheduled to run anything because I haven't developed anything new that requires testing. All of the testing to Sucks is done, I just need to change flavor text to diversify the work category to something more than tech.

I spent some time on the phone with Audrey tonight. She's my best friend in Phoenix, was also Best Man at my wedding, and she's going to go to the Con on Saturday to spend time with me! She wants to play in anything that I'm running, so that'll be fun! She's also looking to watch and maybe play in the Deadlands game that The Man Called Bear (who celebrated a birthday Wednesday!) will be running Saturday night. AND she's going to spend the night with us and take me to the airport Sunday! So I'm going to get to spend a lot of time with me best bud (after my wife).

Now here's the sad part about this trip (aside from incipient depression because all of the things that I usually do with Jason at a convention won't happen ever again) -- I can't find my dice bags!!! It's possible that I left them in Cloudcroft, but I don't think so. Fortunately I found a box of d6 and I have a box of Seagrams bags, so no worries there. I'll have to buy a box of polyhedrals once I'm there for Deadlands, but that's no big deal.

I'm hoping to pick up a copy of the (semi-)new game that's a (sort of) sequel to Fearsome Floors, but I'm not certain it'll fit in my baggage. I was supposed to bring some stuff back from Jason's collection for friends in Denver, but now I'm not sure that I'll be going there any time soon, plus with the death of Jim's brother, he probably won't be at the convention, so I won't be getting the stuff in the first place for me to take back to NM!

Maybe I can get Dave & Kris to meet us in Albuquerque some weekend....

NEXT YEAR, COLORADO RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL, NEXT YEAR!

As [livejournal.com profile] cardigirl pointed out, it started raining in the wee small hours of the morning. I was anticipating the possibility of the Supersition Freeway being a parking lot whilst driving out to the festival, it was not. Perhaps the half mile visibility had something to do with it. We got out to the fest a bit after the opening at 10am, and there were only two rows of cars. And there was a mini van stuck in the mud already. We picked up our tickets at will-call and proceeded in, checked in at the Pleasure Feast, were spotted by Richard and told where they were hiding, and wandered off.

Russet and I decided not to dress up, mainly on a warmth/dry basis. I wore two shirts and my leather coat, Russet added her gloves for handling liquid nitrogen to her garb. We talked to the jeweler from whom we bought our rings from the previous two years and headed off to the feast.

The feast, which started at 11am, was good, the emcees were a bit static for my taste (they need better re-writes in the off-season). Rich came to us some time after noon and told us that the faire had closed due to weather. So much for "open rain or shine".

So after the feast we picked up comp tickets to get back in, but it's doubtful that Russet and I will be able to get back down before the run ends, last weekend is the first of April.

Sigh.

Sorry, Deb, no pix. There was no way that I was taking my camera out in that rain.

We may make plans to go to the Denver Ren Fest in June.
