Well, Apple is endorsing AT&T's fake 5G network with their own lies

Apple doesn't make 5G iPhones yet. AT&T doesn't have a widespread 5G network yet. In December I wrote about AT&T fake labeling their phones to appear on a 5G network even though it's just an upgraded 4G network.

But with a forthcoming iPhone update, some iPhones will display that they're connecting to a 5G network even though the phones are electronically/physically incapable of connecting to 5G because they don't have the internal guts.

*sigh*

Apple and AT&T did the exact same thing in 2012 with 4G and LTE, so it's a familiar ruse between them.

I think it is kind of a testament to how gimmicky faster networks are for the consumer. Yes, some people really care and notice the difference in speed and connection. But Apple, At&T, et al can literally lie about the connection type and the consumer would never even notice the difference-- and would probably pay more for the "better" service and feel like there is a difference.

Apple, At&T, etc are at fault for sure for lying. But they get away with it because we are at fault for not understanding technology and falling for cheap gimmicks.

Verizon's been pulling shenanigans as well with their 5G Home rollout. I guess everyone just wants to be able to yell 'First!'

One didn't materialize in '12, AFAIK, and considering who's in power now, I wouldn't hold my breath.  But with the Dems in control of the House and being pissed, things could happen.

I don't think it matters which politicians are in power. You just need the right (greedy) lawyer to come along and snap it up. Much like the whole horsepower thing on small engines going away and replaced by "CC" from my understanding.
