Came across an interesting Bertolt Brecht quote recently

Reading an article about Angela Merkel from several years ago, she was giving a speech in the Bundestag, and after she was done, the opposition was given time to rebut her. A minority party came up and said that she was enabling facism. Said minority party were pretty much facists. A member from another party came up and let loose this zinger from Brecht:

“Who does not know the truth is simply a fool, yet who knows the truth and calls it a lie is a criminal.”

That seems applicable to many aspects of the current world.

Very.  I just can't understand this anti-science movement that's taken our country.  That little glass slab that we worship?  Not possible without science.  The cars we drive?  Same.  Our very existence is not possible without it.  And science makes mistakes, but it tries to correct and acknowledge them. It just drives me nuts.

There's a lot of things that people want simple explanations for that reinforce their societal prejudices, rather than to grapple with the complexity that science demands we deal with.
