Some excellent news for Rivers of London fans, albeit slightly stale

Coming up on three years old, but things take time in movies.

Aaronovitch signed a deal with Stolen Pictures, which is the outfit owned by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost!

This happened back in April '19, and Ben Aaronovitch is not fastidious about updating his blog as this is the most recent entry in it, but still - excellent news for fans of the work!

I highly recommend the books if you like funny police procedurals with a heavy twist of the supernatural. Think Harry Potter as a bi-racial copper being taught on-the-job by a grandfatherly figure who single-handedly fought off Panzers with magic.

His first case is when he first graduates from the academy and he's standing post to protect a crime scene in the middle of the night, in the rain, and someone calls him over saying he saw the killer. Except the witness is a ghost.

There's many books in the series, several have been turned into graphic novels. There's also some fantastic RoL fanfic on AO3!

Most excellent news if: (a) it actually happens, and (b) I get to see it, and (c) they don't make a total hash out of it. All three seem problematic. LOVED the series, except the last one. Veered off in a new direction, which I suppose need to do to keep it fresh, but just wasn't as enjoyable.

I think Pegg/Frost would be the people to do it. They have a great sense of humor and have pulled off some excellent hits with Hot Fuzz and Sean of the Dead. If Aaranovitch maintains tight control in case Pegg/Frost come close to running off the rails, it could become quite a good product - if it ever sees the light of day! So many great books get optioned and nothing ever becomes of it, but at least the author gets another payday.

Well, that's news I hadn't heard. Now that you mention it, Simon Pegg's style seems like it would fit with the Rivers of London story style.

Pegg/Frost are the people whom I'd want to see do a movie/series if anyone were to do it.  I definitely know whom I would want Pegg to play, can't think of a roll for Frost off-hand.
