He will be out of office come January, if not sooner!
The challenger, State Senator Chuck Edwards, not only soundly beat Cawthorne, cleared the 30% vote margin and will not face a run-off election which is what got Cawthorne into office. Edwards will go strait to the General Election in November and face whatever opponents make it to that stage. Since it is a safely Republican district, he is expected to go straight to Washington.
The Rolling Stone article details Cawthorne's recent troubles, which are quite numerous. It includes Trump's tepid plea to give Cawthorne 'a second chance' after privately wondering if he was "fucking his cousins". Wow. Well, regardless of proclivities, he's gone. He conceded the race and that is probably the end of his career on the National stage.

Date: 2022-05-18 03:11 pm (UTC)I occasionally call Fox News, Faux Newts. That's why I titled this post thus. I'm glad you got a chuckle. :-) I did not mean to encourage people to go out and harm innocent little water creature lizard like things.

Date: 2022-05-19 01:55 pm (UTC)I like that: newts on a rampage! I'm pretty careful with my typing, and with my browser underlining spelling errors, it's pretty rare that you'll see a typo in my posts, so it'll usually be on purpose if you do. ;-)

Yup, no more soup for him!
Well, he'll probably still get his soup, but not quite the premier grade in DC. His tier might be reduced a few levels.
Do you know how he lost the use of his legs?

Date: 2022-05-18 10:03 pm (UTC)My housemate wonders if the person who won is even more conservative/loony right-wing than Cawthorn. Unfortunately, I haven't seen a story yet that addresses this question. (I'm hoping that the person is less wacky -- and that that's part of the reason why Cawthorn lost. Ever the optimist, me.)

Date: 2022-05-22 10:11 pm (UTC)It would appear that his D.C. Sexgate attempt at an expose is what really shot him down. Cost him the support of his colleagues and candidates. And the group that 'doxxed' him, so to speak, with pictures or videos is talking about going after Boebert next! Lots of material there.
