RIP Queen Elizabeth the Second. She passed peacefully at Balmoral Thursday afternoon with most of the immediate family present.
Prince Charles is now King Charles the Third. It took over a year between Elizabeth becoming Queen and her formal coronation, no telling how long it will take for Charles to get his, lots of pomp and circumstance to be organized.
A sad day for the UK.

Charles became King automatically on the death of Elizabeth, but there's lots of things to be done. Info on the process of the transfer of the Crown:

They do want to make sure everything goes exactly to plan, so it does pay to get every detail perfectly rehearsed. My dad, and a few of my friends parents were around before she became queen, but were also not terribly concerned with it as they were living in the depth of the Great Depression and World War 2 and such and had other things to worry about.

Date: 2022-09-12 03:53 am (UTC)It might also be a good time for many countries that have been nominal subjects of the Queen to fully transition themselves to parliamentary democracies in their own right, to remove the last vestiges of an empire and a system they haven't actively practiced in a long while.
