IIRC, they are also the recipient of a $1.6B suit from the voting machine company.  As much trouble as Fox is having, there's no way that Newsmax is in any better position to successfully defend themselves.

Backbone is debatable, they know their chances of survival as an online news source with no broadcast is very, very low, so pulled out the bucks to hire a literally high-powered lobbyist.  Capitalism at its best!

Isn't it great how something that can be proven to be wrong and harmful still gets to stay on the air and get distributed to as many networks as possible?

Yeah, not so much.  It used to be 'You're entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts.'  Well, that's been declared unconstitutional or something.

Consensus reality lost the consensus once it became clear that there was money to be made in selling and repeating lies that played into the prejudices of the audience, and then it got even worse once it was clear you could get people elected who would also do the same.
