Stage actor stopped Hamlet's 'To Be' soliloquy because audience member pulled out laptop!

In 2017, the actor, Andrew Scott - known as the Hot Priest from the Brit show Fleabag - was performing Hamlet on-stage when someone in the audience pulled out a laptop to send off some emails.

Yeah. Just a little bit not cool.

So Scott stopped performing. The stage director was motioning him to get on with it, Scott was 'fuck it', not gonna do it. Laptop Guy's girlfriend realized what was going on and was finally able to convince the guy to shut it down and the play finally resumed.

Who would take a laptop to a performance of HAMLET?!

Wtaf. I can see hauling a laptop into a theater (after work) -- but not USING IT.

While this is now going on seven years ago, people's behavior in live theater has not improved.

I don't think I have encountered anything like this, but I have heard the horror stories. :o

I did once see someone pull a portable video camera out of their jacket in a movie theater.  I went and told the management about it.  If they're going to be that blatant about it, they need to be caught.

I would be utterly unsurprised to find that the person using the laptop didn't actually want to be there in the first place and had been required to go by someone else who was there. Thought they might be able to get a little work done while the boring play was going on and had the misfortune of being spotted doing the thing in the theater. Laptops, of course, are not quite as easy to disguise as a phone or other such device, especially in a darkened theater.
