Elizabeth Holmes barred from Federal health programs for NINE DECADES

Holmes, 39 years old, the convicted fraudsterfounder of Theranos, is serving an eleven year sentence for her fraud. She claimed her technology could take a small drop of blood and perform "hundreds" of blood tests for quite a variety of conditions.

It didn't.

In addition to her prison term, she has also been ordered to pay back FOUR HUNDRED AND FIFTY-TWO MILLION DOLLARS in restitution! That's going to be a lot of pizza deliveries when she gets out!

She has now been banned by the Department of Health and Human Services from ever participating in Medicare, Medicade, and any other health programs funded by the Feds.

But only for 90 years.

Maybe she can come up with some pretty clever life-extension tech that will let her outrun the ban.

Heh.  That'd be funny if she were barred on both sides.  But I think just to be a provider of services or anything related to that capacity.

I don’t know whether this will deter any potential fraudsters not already deterred by the prospect of a decade or so in prison, but it does send a message.

The amount of the restitution might be a bit of a disincentive, be nice if Martin Shkreli had been similarly slapped.

And what a scammer she was.

That's a strong punishment for someone who made big claims and then didn't deliver. Would be nice if more people who didn't deliver on their grandiose promises got discouraged from doing so again. (And for others to scale themselves down to reasonable.)
