I can't remember if it was Vizio or LG that said they made more money on data gathered from their smart TVs than from selling the TVs themselves, personally I think this is what Walmart is after.

Unfortunately the article itself is behind a Wall Street Journal paywall, so about all I can easily link to is the Slashdot post. I will quote one reply on Slashdot: maker of cheap shit being purchased by seller of cheap shit.

I've a Vizio, it's fine. It also got connected to the Internet once, to get firmware update, and then disconnected again.

I would take LG over Vizio any day, so hopefully they are the cheap shit Wally is interested in. :o
And thankfully I am not in the market for a tv any time soon. Knock on Wood. :o

Both, I think, have said as much about getting more profit from data than from the devices themselves. And many others seem to have a similar idea, with the device itself being a loss leader for the profit to be obtained from the data that can be harvested.

Vizios, are generally the bottom tier of material, from the pricing I see for them related to the LGs, so they're probably right in line to become Walmart's house brand of TV.
