Oh, and the sun isn't 93 million miles away, and this also proves that the earth and everything out in space is flat. Some of these twits claim they stare at the sun for five minutes a day with no ill effect.

The stupid is quite astounding. As is permanent, irreversible retina damage.

It's sometimes interesting and sometimes terrifying to see what someone's cosmology is like when rare events like eclipses are about to happen. I am curious how the logic works that an eclipse proves the earth is flat or the universe is smaller than current scientific consensus, though. You would think that such things wouldn't need spectacular cosmic events to reveal their truths, but I suppose that's just me.

It's kind of depressing though, and a sign of being poorly educated. But then populist, nationalist parties prefer people to be uncritical and unthinking, as they are more likely to vote for right wing parties who spout meaningless slogans.

And the rapture thing too, FFS, there is a total solar eclipse ever 1-2 years around the world. Presumably the rapture is only for Americans.
