Russia is now telling soldiers that they will be "resurrected"

The Eastern Orthodox Church is pretty much hand in hand with Putin et al, and they're now, through media, telling people that soldiers who suffered fatal wounds are being resurrected on the battlefield in hopes that this will spur enlistment.

Estimates are that Russia has suffered between 300,000 to 450,000 soldiers lost in battle in Ukraine.

I'm really hoping the Russian people are smarter than this.

There is "native" Ukrainian religion, similar to Wicca. The people of Ukraine are the children of "Warm Mother Earth", who is always willing to help her children survive. A Ukrainian witch visited the Pagan gathering I used to go to, and she told us that at every full Moon, they raise power to help drive the invaders out of their homeland.

I think Baba Yaga probably started working with the October Revolution, because they liked to use fear tactics to scare people into obedience. Maybe she'll get angry because Vlad isn't bloodthirsty enough.

Based on a bell curve, guaranteed a certain percentage are true believers and will fall for it (and be surprised when they take a bullet to the gut and die painfully), and a certain percentage are absolutely true disbelievers.  The question is how many are sufficiently doubtful to be persuadable to join or resist.  Russia is surprisingly a fairly religious country, but how many are actually believers vs 'Putting on their Sunday Suit'.

I suspect many of them are too smart to believe this, but at least some subset of them are also smart enough to recognize that you don't go saying that anywhere someone can hear it and have it get back to the Kremlin that you have, in fact, volunteered for the army, whether you said such things or not.

At a certain point, if it hasn't already happened, there's likely going to be conscription.
