Heh. Yeah, the body is pretty cool! No, I have no idea exactly how Morriconne recorded the original, or if there's footage for it. I know that the movies were shot with no sound, so the actors needed to keep their shooting script for the redub of the final cut back in Rome.
I wondered the same about the vocals. The original does have vocals, but I still am not sure whether the original "wah wah waaah" part is a vocal or not: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzw34HKjfjU
Wikipedia seems to indicate it is a vocal: The music is complex and features soprano recorder, drums, bass ocarina, chimes, electric guitar, trumpets, whistling, and lyrics sung by a choir including simple words like "wah wah wah", "go go go eh go", "who who who", etc.
And this video featured the bass ocarina. It's interesting to think that there are professional whistlers out there. I remember listening to, IIRC, a Wait Wait Don't Tell Me and one of the panelists mentioned that her father/grandfather/uncle/whatever was the 'Glug Glug' guy for Spike Jones' band!

Love the added touch of the body hanging from the noose. LOL......
