I can definitely relate to that. What's worse though is waiting for the next book by the author to come out.

A friend of mine was reading Rick Shelley's series, I think it starts with Cadet, it's military SF and every book the main character advances one rank. Unfortunately Shelley passed away before writing Admiral or General or whatever. My friend was not happy!
