This woman made popcorn with bacon grease....

Some of the suggestions that people provided sound absolutely wonderful!

Bummer about the lamb! I love lamb chops. How about duck? There's a French restaurant near here that does a very nice duck breast and plum sauce.

Yeah, I knew you were Asian from your vacation photos, not enough detail for me to really see if you were Chinese or what. My friend [livejournal.com profile] magic_rat used to work at a comic book store taking care of their mail-order side. He was used to getting a call from an Aussie who placed large orders on a regular basis. One call the Aussie tells him that he's going to be in Phoenix and would like to come by the store and meet him. So they arrange a meeting and the guy comes by the store. Both Magic Rat and the guy are dumb-struck: they were both pure ethnic Japanese, one Australian, one Hawaiian/Texan with an Arizona (lack of) accent. Neither had a clue.

Unrelated, but a good story.

Hahahahahahaha... How about that!?

I have a reasonably strong Australian accent, and no Asian accent at all. I have had phone and email contact with some people professionally, and when I met up with them, they kinda say "Wow, I thought you were anglo". It's so ridiculous, given my name. *sigh*.

One person has even said "Oh, *disappointed*. I thought you were a real Australian". I was like *wtf*?

Duck.... ooooooh. My favourite is stewed duck with chestnuts, done Chinese style. Or Peking duck. Or roast duck. The Chinese and French know duck well indeed.

"...a real Australian."

BWAHAHAHA!

What, are you a replicant or something? Yeah, that's definitely a WTF moment.

I was in Atlanta for a week of training and one of the women in the class was Chinese. 5'8", pure Texan in accent and attitude. That really gave my head a twist! (I've always liked Asian women, though I never dated one, and I ended up marrying a woman who is pure Scottish)

Ya never know who's on the other end of the phone. Make all the assumptions that you want, just don't be surprised if they're 10' tall and green. (or as Tom Lehrer put it: "Eight foot two, solid blue, five transisters in each shoe: Has anybody seen my girl?")

I think I need to go to bed... :-)
