My sister and I had the luxury of having a TV in our room. When my parents got a color TV, the black and white was moved to our room. My grandmother didn't care what we watched, as long as she could watch her own soap operas. She watched regular soap operas, and I watch Dark Shadows in my room. I used to stay up late on weekends and watch what I don't think you could even call them "B" movies. Some of them were soooo bad, and the dubbing was usually worse.
A TV in your room? Luxury. (have you ever heard Monty Python's Four Yorkshiremen sketch?)
Aside from the one TV in our house, we didn't have two until I bought my own TV in the early 80's. We had enough money, we just didn't want or need one.
Once my dad got PO'd at my brother, I don't remember if it was over grades or watching tv during dinner or what, but my dad took out his knife and cut the power cord in half. We went without tv for ONE YEAR.
Not that it was a bad thing. Just don't PO my dad. :-)
