As if our world isn't screwy enough: ASU launches an influencer degree program

Sigh.

Now, I realize university enrollment is trending down overall, and launching a new degree program could bring in more students. BUT AN INFLUENCER PROGRAM? Yeah, if there's one thing that the world REALLY needs more of, it's these worthless consumers of air and space. To complete the course, the students must actually do some sort of campaign and gain followers.

I have read so many stories of "influencers" and people thinking they are influencers because they have two or three thousand followers ruining things, that it just makes me queasy thinking about more coming along, all happy because they have an ASU degree! And of course, since ASU has a degree program, other schools will have to launch influencer degree programs too!

I read a lot about the dumbing down of education, and how students have extremely poor long-term concentration. It makes me wonder how horrible the source materials in this course will be.

The worst insult of this program being instituted? It's home is the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
