Bastards

I just called Overstock about my laptop's harddrive. I was told Thursday that I should hear from them Friday to arrange a service. No word Friday. Sunday I'm in Las Cruces and pricing new drives at Best Buy, I was very tempted to buy one but didn't. So I just got off the phone with Overstock.

Turns out that I won't hear from them for a minimum of 3-4 business days.

We leave town for Colorado Friday, come back Sunday, I leave for Phoenix Tuesday.

I have a feeling that I'm going to end up canceling the contract with Overstock, which the guy on the phone said he could do, and buying my own drive and installing it myself, something that I could do in ten minutes or so.

Nothing, ANYWHERE, gave me any indication that this contract would be anything but a rapid service. Well, rapid is one thing that it is definitely not.

Bastards. This'll probably be the last high-ticket item I buy from Overstock.

I can see that. They seem like the kind of business I'd trust for something lower-end, where service or replacement isn't such a big issue. However, when it comes to something important like a harddrive, I'd rather go through someplace I can trust to provide the service I'd want/need in a timely fashion.

Sorry about the problems. Where in Colorado are you heading?

We are going to the Ren Fest! I have to do our hotel today, probably staying in CO Springs.

Ah! In larkspur! Well, have fun and bring lots of water! It'll be hot.

How hot is hot? I have no prob as I'm from Phoenix and am used to broiling a bit, but we'll have our poodle with us in the car. I'm hoping we can find a nice tree to park under. 80 degrees would be ok, but if it's up to 90, we might have to rethink.

Yesterday Denver hit 103F. Today it's in the 90s. Check out the weather forecast on www.kusa.com. It's going to be 90-100F. I'd board the poodle if I were you.

Ok, they think the monsoons are going to start up again and drop the temps. It still is very brutal for dogs out here because we get so much sun. If the monsoons don't come, we'll be stuck with very hot days.

I just emailed my wife to see if maybe getting a new co-worker to take care of Celeste might be viable, she's living in Cloudcroft, so it might work. We'll see.

Even with the monsoons it'll be brutal humidity. Dunno, we'll see what the spousal unit thinks.

Alternately, you can do what my parents do when they're travelling with the dog in heat and have to stop: get a good leash, affix iit to a wheel or axle, make sure the dog has reliable shade (provide tent or patio umbrella if necessary) and leave LOTS of water, maybe with ice in it. If your dog has to deal with the outdoors in Phoenix, she'll be acclimated.

Outisde is far, far better than risking in the car, even with windows open.

I don't think we could do that, if someone wanted Celeste, she probably would go with them. That would definitely break my wife's heart. We're looking at the concept of putting her in a kennel for the duration, it would only be three days, and it would make it much easier for us to get an inexpensive hotel room. It looks like a lot of the hotels up there give you a smoking room if you have a pet. Makes sense, but isn't good for people who have problems with smoke.
