Well, we're not doing the Colorado Ren Fest this weekend. I went to the doctor yesterday, I've been having some tremendous neck pain and he thinks my neck muscles are inflamed, so I'm going to be doing Flexoril(?) and steroids. I'm going to have a drugged-up weekend in hopes that I'll be recovered before I hit the road for Phoenix and Con Games. We may go back to 'Cruces since Russet is off, theoretically my parents are going to be there.

The major suckage is my laptop is dead. Won't boot, no screen display/POST. Fortunately the warranty people finally called, so we shall see what we shall see. Also fortunately, my older laptop (i.e. the MP3 player) will be easy to bring up to my needs, I just have to install Office, Photoshop, and copy my games down. Probably four hours of work or so.

There is one point of non-suckage: my 100gig drive for my laptop arrived. But since the computer is dead, it ain't gonna do me much good.

*sigh*

Lots of games to update, it's going to be busy.

I'm currently on Flexoril (and was on steroids), and the impact has been pretty small. About 45 minutes after taking the Flexoril I get a little sleepy, but not much, and the only other effect is, unsurprisingly, I'm weaker because my muscles are so relaxed. It's helped a ton with my back (injured in a car accident).

The steroids had no side effects at all and helped a ton.

Best of luck with both. On the laptop I can provide no insight. :)

I was hoping the Flexoril would also help me sleep, I don't have trouble going to sleep, but I had hoped that half an hour after taking it that I would have been cutting logs. No joy there. I also had my hand scratched up pretty bad by a puppy yesterday morning, and until I figured out that I was restless because of the way my hand was hurting and to cover it with a gauze bandage, sleep wasn't good.

We shall see about tonight.

One word of caution. My wife's former dorm mate became VERY sleep-deprived on Flexoril. We're talking halucinations and suicidal thoughts. It can definitely be dangerous. I'm only taking one dose at bedtime, I can't do it during the day, so I think I'm safe. We shall see.

I spoke with the repair people and I'll be shipping my laptop off to them tomorrow, at my expense. But they say I should have it back in a week, so it should be here when I get back from the convention.

Interesting (on the sleep deprivation). I've been sleeping like a baby and waking refreshed. Is there a problem with REM sleep or something? I've been having plenty of memorable dreams (as I usually do), and seem fine after two weeks of taking it 3 times a day or so.

You've been mauled by a puppy now? You and Scott should team up to host When Animals Attack (Us).

Mania << who is evil and derives amusement from misfortune

Seriously, though, hope your neck gets better soon.

Neck is much improved. But as Matthew said, it contributes to a general weakness. I'm seeing the doctor again this afternoon.

Yeah, that puppy sucked! A little 2y/o boxer/pug type with razor-sharp toenails. Gave me two good gashes on my L hand and several smaller ones. Two days of Neosporin and they're going away rapidly.

And I know Mania well enough to know what she delights in! ;-)

Flexeril.. bleh.. The couple of times I've been on that, it never seemed to do much good. Then again, many prescription drugs don't seem to do much good for me. But doctors seem to LOVE giving you prescriptions for them.. :)

Just out of curiosity, have you thought about maybe seeing a chiropracter?

Actually I had a wonderful chiro in Phoenix, but he retired and I now live elsewhere. Here, our current health plan doesn't cover chiro at all. Zero. Zip. Nada. I've found a decent one, and our plan changes in September and adds coverage, so I'll be getting back to one soon.

The flexeril is doing pretty good by me, my neck is much improved. But as Fastlearner said above, there's a general weakness with the drug.

I was hoping to try to get to the Ren Fest in Larkspur the last weekend it is here.

I have gone to the Ren Faire in Santa Nella (thereabouts) California nearly every year for the past six and want to check out the one in my new home state.

I hope your neck feels better now. Steroids are a bitch to have to take. I was on an intense 7 day round of them the day after Christmas last because of a serious vertigo attack. NASTY STUFF! I hated it.

Steroids for vertigo?! Huh, never heard of that. My wife found them effective for battling a fever last winter when she had the flu.

Neck is much improved, but I've got a 500 mile drive tomorrow with a game convention starting the next day. Should be interesting!

They were to deal with the inflammation in my inner ear that triggered the horrendous vertigo spell...
