Well, the words started flowing better for me, I've gotten my main character introduced and on to the station, I've introduced two other characters and I've started describing the station. I'll be starting telling stories today, and starting with the main plot probably tomorrow. I wrote about 1500 words yesterday, so I'm still way behind the 2000 words/day curve but I think I'll be catching up soon.

And for those who are truly bored, I've posted what I've written in my NaNo profile, that section is limited to 10k words, so no telling how long it'll be current. And yes, it really drags in the beginning. It was a pain in the butt to write, but it's flowing better now. And now my laptop is pretty much done with updates and such, so I won't have to spend as much time tweaking it. And I've played less than 2 hours of Warcraft since 11/1, so I don't think that'll be too much of a problem.

This looks interesting. I may try it next year. I like Russet's title alot. What her plot, or not plot. about.

I read a little of yours. Is it a bit like a space opera version of 'Under Siege'?

Russ wrote a Stargate: Atlantis story a while back called Cross Product. Her NaNoWriMo story is a continuation of what she did (IIRC).

No, mine's not Under Siege. It's going to be a collection of short stories based in Van Kull Station. We started developing for it back in '94, and the SciFi gaming market was kind of inert at that point so we never continued it. I'm using what I wrote for the project.

This is the first Cross Product story. I really ought to read it, I'm a bad hubby.

Sorry to disappoint you, but the excerpt section is limited to 10K signs incl. blanks... You won't be able to put much there...

Yeah, I saw that. No big deal, maybe I'll post incrementally. I have no idea if anyone's interested in reading it as I post, so it might be a complete waste of time (something that I'm an expert at.)

I'm really not happy with the first couple of chapters, but I'm not going to worry about that at this time.

It just occurred to me that the beginning is definitely similar to Die Hard. But definitely not Under Siege.

The weird part is that I started writing a novel and then heard about NaNoWriMo. It just started to jell (after many years idly floating around in the brain cells.)

But I'm not doing that, because November is a crazy month, what with family birthdays* and all. And besides, my method of writing is to spend several years working on it in my brain, and then putting it to paper from the middle toward the ends. I'm planning, instead, to drive a friend crazy by emailing him excerpts out of order and seeing if he can put them together coherently.

*I just got back from one such party, 100 miles away. Next weekend is the one that's 150 miles away, with twelve kindergarteners. I'm doing the face painting. I must be crazy.

Ah, the Tarantino approach to writing! I was considering such a technique, but I don't think I'll be using it.

November's going to be a little crazy. We'll be going to Phoenix for Thanksgiving for most of the week, and I know I'm going to be swamped with Photoshop and color printing, heck, I should have gone down to school today and done some printing!

I fully understand the traveling. We don't have any relative birthdays since our closest relatives are mine at 500 miles away. I was there for my mom's 75th this year, and that'll be it. We just got back from going to a Halloween party in Phoenix last weekend, left Friday and returned Sunday for a three hour party. Over a thousand miles and probably a hundred bucks in gas.

So yeah, you've got lots of friends in the crazy realm.

Oh, but it's worth it. You just find out you have very little time after spending a couple of hours in the car.

Incidentally, since I was by myself, I was creating dialogue out loud. That was fun; I ought to do that more often.

Meself, when driving long distances solo without me wife, I sing or dictate notes into a digital voice recorder for game concepts. Dialog comes to me as I'm writing, I start with a vague concept: Pat is going to describe *this*, Audrey will reply by telling *this other* story.
