The internet is not full of porn?

From a study by a professor of statistics at the University of California-Berkeley and reported in the San Jose Mercury News:

"A confidential analysis of Internet search queries and a random sample of Web pages taken from Google and Micrsoft's giant Internet indexes showed that only about 1 percent of all Web pages contain sexually explicit material."

In my personal experience, I don't normally see porn in search results. Email spam, on the other hand...

Oh my... scientific studies about porn in the internet? What exactly is it that you Americans have with sex? I mean, you lot don't have problems with cruel brutality of any sort, but one exposed belly bottom and an uproar goes through the US... Is there any historical explanation for this?

It's puritan/fundamentalist insanity. I tend to agree with Sweden (IIRC) when the original Star Wars came out in the 70's: they gave it an R rating. Kids could go see The Happy Hooker, but they couldn't see Star Wars because of the violence.

A classic example is the uproar over Janet Jackson (IIRC) showing a nipple for one second during the Super Bowl a few years back. I don't get it, but I definitely don't have "American sensibilities."
