From a study by a professor of statistics at the University of California-Berkeley and reported in the San Jose Mercury News:

"A confidential analysis of Internet search queries and a random sample of Web pages taken from Google and Micrsoft's giant Internet indexes showed that only about 1 percent of all Web pages contain sexually explicit material."

In my personal experience, I don't normally see porn in search results. Email spam, on the other hand...

It's puritan/fundamentalist insanity. I tend to agree with Sweden (IIRC) when the original Star Wars came out in the 70's: they gave it an R rating. Kids could go see The Happy Hooker, but they couldn't see Star Wars because of the violence.

A classic example is the uproar over Janet Jackson (IIRC) showing a nipple for one second during the Super Bowl a few years back. I don't get it, but I definitely don't have "American sensibilities."
