Apparently there have been some corruption problems where the iPod just doesn't work very well afterwards. Some people have no problems, some do. Regardless, Apple is encouraging iPod owners to hold off until they come out with the new version of iTunes.

Date: 2007-02-04 06:44 pm (UTC)Myself, I use iTunes on both my laptop and desktop because I like the interface for playback and building music lists and such. Oddly, I prefer Windows Media Player for ripping, but iTunes for playing back. I used Real Player for a while for ripping, but I really don't like the interface. And the last time that I used WinAmp it left a bad taste in my brain, so I haven't gone back to it.
One of these days I'll be getting a portable MP3 player, so I'll probably have to look more seriously at the issue. It will definitely not be an iPod, I can't stand the interface on those things. Most likely candidate will be a Creative Labs 30gig model, they occasionally have them at Fry's/Outpost.com for $80 as a refurb.
