Have you seen the ads? GM and Ford loves us so much that they are giving ALL OF US their employee discount! I've heard GM has extended this to Saab, but I haven't heard of Ford extending it to Jaguar. Bastards.

How is this supposed to make you feel? You work for one of the Big Three, a huge economic power house, and you turn on the news and now either everyone in the country is working for your employer, or your value to your employer is no longer all that special. Or possibly they are lying and they've increased your discount for buying a new car while lying to the American public about the discount they are being given.

Corporate boards and advertising never lie, so it can't be the last option.

I'm sorry, let me recast that fourth paragraph.

You work your ass off for one of the Big Three, a huge economic power house, never knowing if you're going to get a cost of living raise, or whether your health insurance costs are going to jump again, or even if your plant will still be open in a year. You turn on the news and now either everyone in the country is working for your employer, or your value to your employer is no longer all that special, not that this surprises you. Or possibly they are lying and they've increased your discount for buying a new car while lying to the American public about the discount they are being given. At least the board of directors are still getting their bonuses.


But that's OK. You're special, that's why Ford and GM are still closing American plants! And increasing the cost of your portion of your health insurance. Ignoring the fact that if the Big Three really cared about the cost of health insurance that they could band together and buy several of the major health providers, thus ensuring that their employees have reasonable and controlled medical costs.

THANK GOD THAT GODLESS COMMIE CLINTON DIDN'T GET HIS WAY WITH UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE! Who knows what our health insurance costs would be like now! And just think of how many more people would be without health care!

Thank God for George W. Bush. He's such a nice man.

It really doesn't amount to much, about $4 grand on the most expensive vehicles. A sale at your local dealership could net you the same.

I won't touch the rest of your points, as they are not important to an evil Libertarian like myself. ;-)

I'd be happy that the corporate guys figured out a clever advertising hook that might increase sales enough to ensure that the plant where I work stays in business. After all, I'm not losing my discount and there's a better chance that by next year I'll still be working there (and thus still have my discount available) than this special sale will still be available to the ordinary customer.

You're getting to stressed out about all this. You should concentrate on the important issues, like what the difference is between Diet Coke and Coke Zero.

Oh, and George W. Bush IS a nice man. He's just a lousy president.
