They have a new diesel that gets 62 MPG and has lower tailpipe emissions than the Prius. It also has the benefit of not having to recycle batteries. Naturally there's nothing regarding pricing or when we might see them in America.

We probably won't see them in America, which is the worst part about the whole operation. For some reason, 'Mericans like big penis-substitutes, not efficient ones.

Well, yes and no (re: penis-substitution). Traditionally, yes, that's been the case. But when oil was hovering arond $150 a barrel, that was a nasty wake-up call and the Big 3 started seeing huge amounts of SUV inventory aging on their lots. I think that will change for a lot of people, of course, there will always be those who have to have the H2 and its ilk.

True, true. But I don't see a whole lot of people changing over to a diesel car, unless VW can work out the math that says, "Look! Buying our car will hurt more at the pump, but it saves you much more money over time!" And... is VW the only company that has a well-known diesel fuel line here?

I've always been an advocate of diesel cars ever since this whole "hybrid" trend. Better gas mileage, better performance, and usually, better looking. Really, is there a reason why the Prius is so damn ugly? :P

Aerodynamics, that's the main reason.
