Apparently what was left of CompUSA was bought out by Systemax, which owns Tiger Direct: they're offering the same prices as Tiger, so I guess they're now sort of a brick & mortar storefront for their online site under a different label. They've reopened some stores and are running some pretty good 48 hour sales. With Circuit City gone, this might be a good opportunity for them, assuming Systemax can keep 'em afloat long enough without killing the rest of the corp in the process.

Personally I think they should have done some rebranding, I think Tiger Direct holds more value in the geek community than CompUSA does (it certainly does with me) and that the negatives of CompUSA's policies could hurt them.

Cool, TigerDirect is a great company. I agree about the rebranding bit, though that's an expensive endeavor, especially for something that may not even be successful. If it works out, maybe they'll invest in rebranding later.

That's pretty interesting. Might be worth going to a CompUSA again if one re-opens near me, knowing that it's affiliated with Tigerdirect.
