Words fail me as much as brains fail Dr. Kimberly Daniels. You know, there are laws in some states that you cannot publicly criticize food: Oprah was sued by a Texas cattleman association (she ultimately won). It would be interesting to see M&M Mars go after Daniels.

So...is this sort of thing covered by the new anti-hate crime law?

I gotta say, I'm feeling the hate here....

Some states have laws that protect the food industry from criticism. We saw the movie Food, Inc. last week and it contains a rather horrifying story of a woman whose 4 y/o boy died in 12 days from contaminated meat from a fast food burger. She's become more than a bit of a crusader in trying to improve food inspection. Later in the movie, after her story is related, she is revisited and the film maker asks her if her family's food habits have changed since the death of her son. She replies: "I can tell you, but you'd have to check with your lawyer before including it in the movie." I mentioned the Oprah suit, she has the money to defend herself and she won. These laws have sprung up to basically stop criticism of how our food supply is controlled and the things that can go wrong with them.

I think it's based on loss of profit, so I think that Dr. Daniels could definitely be sued in some places for making such a statement in a public forum.

Lovely country we have, eh? Just this evening I was talking with a friend who related a story of a woman who was raped, took an anti-AIDS drug regimen just in case, and after all that her medical insurance company dropped her for now having a pre-existing condition since she took an AIDS drug.

*sigh* There are times that I really wonder what's going to happen to me if something were to happen to Russet!

The worst part is that you know that no facts are going to change this lady's mind. All of the Christians I know joyously get into trick-or-treating with no fear of anything other than dodgy candy (as in, candy that's been sitting in a hot car or a drawer for months.)
