Cost per pound, when calculated for multi-ton loads, is much more inexepensive on rail. They're also talking about building monster airships for moving rail-sized loads for less money. It'll be interesting to see if they pull it off: large loads without the rail maintenance infrastructure costs.

That would be interesting. Although I wonder whether the costs of airship fuel would be just as expensive. Are we thinking dirigibles or jet engines?

Dirigibles. Their speed would be a bit slower than trains, but they'd be traveling in more or less straight lines. So I'm assuming they could use standard diesel.

Probably so. And they don't have to run on rails, so they can be pointed in the direction and route that will move fastest for them. This is a very neat idea. Anyone willing to finance a fleet to see if they can turn a profit on it?
