The radio show that made Weird Al Yankovic a star was down to four or so stations and now those are going away. He'll still be carried, for the time being, out of a station in Amarillo, TX, but new shows will now be streamed online weekly!

Out with the old, in with the new.

(there must be some way that I can tell my Mac to wake up at a certain time and capture an audio stream...)

It's probably a music license/royalties thing. Some of the things he play could possibly be released under a Creative Commons license, but a lot of those bands are probably with major labels or subsidiaries thereof.

Ah, yes, contract negotiations and royalties and things that involve the media cabals. It's probably too expensive to podcast officially. This would be the time for a Billy and the Boingers Bootleg, I would think. Assuming someone was brave enough to do it.

I MISS BLOOM COUNTY!

Outland just never did it for me. The whole crew is what made it for me: Cutter John, Milo, Steve, etc. Opus and Steve Dallas by themselves just didn't work as well.

I was too young for Bloom County, and I loved it anyway. I own all the compilations now and can see just how much of the political humor went straight over my little head.

One Halloween, my brother was the Banana Jr. Series 6000 and I was Opus. His costume was much better than mine.

Very cool costumes! I seem to remember a Banana strip where it's going to take over the world, then its power cord pops out of the wall. There's an old adage: a computer's attention span is only as long as its power cord.

I really liked his political humor. Trudeau is still doing a fine job with Doonesbury, but I found Bloom County to be much more entertaining.

Having read both, I agree. Bloom County was better. And Opus started after I had regular newspaper subscriptions, so I haven't been able to evaluate that well.

Unfortunately it ended two years ago, I'm sure there's an archive somewhere.
