Fox News co-hosts on The Five after report on Maj. Mariam Mansouri, the UAE's first female fighter pilot, who was a team leader in airstrikes against ISIS targets in Syria:

Greg Gutfeld: "The problem is, after she bombed it she couldn't park it."

Eric Bolling: "Would that be considered boobs on the ground, or no?"

The Russians had women in fighters in World War II, the Arabs have it now. And us? Not quite so much. Yet we're the Shining Beacon on the Hill?

With such insightful commentary as that, I remain confounded that the next scene isn't of them all chanting "CHUG! CHUG! CHUG!" as one of them takes on a bet involving very bad beer.

And this is the grade of "news" enjoyed regularly by millions of Americans. Ye gods. Sometimes I wonder about the progress of democracy, when there's such completely voluntary fealty to billionaires masquerading as Just One Of The Guys, or maybe a Respectable Elder.

Oh, we have plenty of very bad beer over here, which is why I don't drink it. I've only found a couple that I care for and none of them are American.

The really sad part is the loss of critical thinking, it seems to combine with the decline in public education and the acceptance of the truth of the world wide web.

There's an excellent article on the Koch Brothers in the current issue of Rolling Stone. I really like their political reporting, they are one of a half dozen or more news sources that I use, fortunately I remembered how much space a RS subscription could consume and just bought a subscription on my iPad.

Are you familiar with the Scott Kilby Photo Walk? It's coming up in a couple of weeks. I know you mainly do wildlife, thought you might be interested.

Which is odd in itself, that Rolling Stone does good politics, because they're nominally a music magazine.

Rolling Stone does excellent investigative journalism, I believe Matt Taibe started there and he's an incredible writer. Definitely worth a read IMO, that's why I subscribed. I'm currently reading a story from three issues back (the Willie Nelson cover) about how the Taliban in Kabul are now targeting civilian establishments, it's nasty stuff.

The music news is also good. Today I learned that Christine McVie is again touring with Fleetwood Mac after a 16 year absence, previously I learned that Pink Floyd has a new album due in November and that Eric Clapton has a new album, which I got, and it's awesome. So I get double value from it. ;-)

Because the most insightful commentary someone can make about women pilots is "Tits or GTFO"?
