I'm getting more interested.

One thing that's nice about having a mid-December birthday is that LOTS of awesome movies come out right on or around my birthday. It makes for some great presents.

I've sort of semi-deliberately avoided seeing any of the trailers - I know there's a good chance I'll enjoy it regardless, although I'm wary that Abrams will go overboard with the hyperkinetic camera in lieu of fake lens flaring in every scene, the directorial equivalent of glitter on a letter.

Don't suppose you're in any danger of being in San Francisco in early December? If I'm back by then, I'm looking at holding a joint birthday dinner for myself and a few other Nov/Dec sorts. ^_^

Sadly, no. We'll be in Phoenix around Christmas time, aside from that I'll be in New Mexico. My wife is working Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve, and I have very little vacation since I gutted it for our Europe trip in June. The school only gives us Thursday/Friday for Turkey Day, but I have almost two weeks off for Xmas.

Sounds awesome, though! Lift a glass for me in absentia.

I'm not a huge Abrams fan: he massively pissed me off, forgive the French, with Star Trek 2. He eliminated any concept of distance or time required to traverse it. He moved the Klingon and Romulan empires a stone's throw away from the Federation, and he made transporter range infinite. That's why I was not thrilled with him being involved in Star Wars. Aside from my massive disappointment with the prequel trilogy, I just couldn't see any good coming from his involvement. Lucas IMHO really blew it with the Force being bugs in your blood, he really should have kept it as a mystical thing because with it being a blood component, you're inviting human harvesting stories to make ubermensch.

When the first trailer came out, I was *meh*. I was slightly encouraged by little or no lens flare. The second trailer added a lot, both in sweep/grandeur and in teasing out a little more story. It has increased my 'I am intrigued' level a notch or two.

I am very curious about George Lucas. He claimed long ago that he had envisioned a three trilogy series from the beginning, and either that's true or he started A New Hope at chapter four to get people to buy in to it. I don't care. What I'm curious about is if he massively re-tooled his concepts for 7-9 after he saw how 1-3 were received.
