I think you're wrong there, bucko
Mar. 14th, 2013 11:38 am"I don't think there is any Bush baggage at all."
—Jeb Bush, on running for president
I, for one, remember when you were Gov that you announced that you would never run for President. I expect that's easily retracted by saying 'I meant that I wouldn't run WHILE I was Governor', but I don't care. I will never vote for a Shrub, especially one who so quickly turns around long-held platforms to pander to the base.
I didn't like your father being President, I don't think anyone who has headed the CIA should be POTUS. I didn't like your brother being President because he was a monumentally unsuccessful businessman. If you want my respect, and the slim possibility of me considering you for my vote, run for Congress and show that you work in the best interests of the country.
Bill Maher had a good joke on last week's show (I don't get HBO, but I do listen to the podcast): The Bushes have to admit that they should have named Jeb George and George Jeb. Let's face it: Jeb looks like a George and George is definitely a Jeb.

Gee, ya think? "...54 percent of those surveyed say Bush is responsible for the "current condition" of the economy, compared to just 27 percent who blame Obama. Among self-described independent voters, a key 2012 voting bloc, the number shifts slightly: 49 percent point the finger at the former GOP president, while 24 percent blame Obama."

Here's the stupid thing: when we had a default in the 80's due to an accounting/computer error, THE ADDITIONAL INTEREST NEVER WENT AWAY. It wasn't much, I believe the number that I heard was 0.03%, or maybe 0.3% (yes, hundredths of a percent), but it was on THE ENTIRE DEBT, not just the amount that was defaulted on. I heard a report that studied this specific time frame, and they couldn't see the higher interest rate ever going away due to the constant fluctuations of interest rates.
Congress raised the debt limit SEVEN TIMES for Bush. They'd better get off their butts and raise it for Obama, or they're REALLY going to see an economy tank! They're also going to have to cut sacred cows like defense and some entitlement programs because that's where the real money is, not this nickle and diming that they're trying to pass as substantial cuts.
I think if Congress doesn't raise the debt ceiling they're pretty much going to guarantee a (D) win in next year's elections and could well totally turn the country against them.

Bush also plagiarized Bob Woodward!
Nov. 18th, 2010 01:10 pm"The entire Cabinet, meeting at the White House for the first time since the terrorist attacks, stood and applauded when President Bush entered the room. Caught by surprise, Bush choked up for a moment, the second time in two days he had lost his composure in front of others."
— Bob Woodward, in "Bush at War"
"I began my first Cabinet meeting since the terrorist attacks. As I stepped into the room, the team broke out in sustained applause. I was surprised, and I choked up at their heartfelt support. The tears flowed for the second time in two days."
— George W. Bush, in "Decision Points"
To paraphrase Nixon, If a president copies it, it isn't plagiarism! Apparently Bush copied more than one passage from Frank's book, I just didn't feel like posting it.

Hah! Dubya plagiarized Gen. Tommy Franks!
Nov. 16th, 2010 07:52 am"If we have multiple, highly skilled Special Operations forces identifying targets for precision-guided munitions, we will need fewer conventional ground forces. That's an important lesson learned from Afghanistan."

I'm really curious how Fox News treats this. It'll be massive softballs, but still.

Somehow, I'm not surprised.
"Agencies under the Obama administration cite security provisions to withhold information more often than they did under the Bush administration. For example, the 'deliberative process' exemption of the Freedom of Information Act was used 70,779 times in 2009, up from the 47,395 of 2008. Amusingly, the Associated Press has been waiting three months for the government to deliver records on its own Open Government Directive."

Doonesbury Say What?
Mar. 6th, 2010 08:37 am"It will go down in history as one of those pivotal moments in the course of our country. [It will lead to] the beginning of the restoration of the foundational aspects of our country."
-- Jeb Bush on the election of Scott Brown
I find Brown interesting. He said right off the bat that he's not going to vote in lock-step with the Republicans and is in favor of abortion rights among other things. He's already voted against the Republican caucus, I believe it was an unemployment benefit bill.
It's good to see someone in Washington whose specialty isn't marching to the same drummer as the rest of his party.
And just what "foundational aspects" are we talking about here? Do I get to own slaves? I have a feeling Jeb isn't going to keep his promise and he's going to be running for higher office, not that I expected him to keep that particular promise in the first place.

Doonesbury Say What?
Jul. 4th, 2008 09:56 pm"There is some who say that perhaps freedom is not universal. Maybe it's only Western people that can self-govern. Maybe it's only, you know, white-guy Methodists who are capable of self-government. I reject that notion."
-- George W. Bush, London, June 16, 2008
I have absolutely nothing to say in response to this quote.

As just recently mentioned in my journal, the Administration wants to cap the size of the Army Reserve at its current level, and Rumsfeld thinks we can make do with a smaller Army. Then why is Stop-Loss being used?

Bush & Abramoff
Jan. 23rd, 2006 11:18 pmApparently even though Georgie denies knowing Abramoff, there are something like five photos of the two of them together and meeting/diary entries that Abramoff was at two Chanukah celebrations at the White House.
I'm looking forward to seeing the news stories when this starts spreading....
Oh, look! I found one!

From News of the Weird:
In December, the Bush administration's Department of Justice filed a "friend of the court" brief at the U.S. Supreme Court, supporting Anna Nicole Smith in her battle with the son of her late husband, J. Howard Marshall II, over his estate. Smith and the administration believe that a federal bankruptcy court (which backed Smith) should control the case and not a Texas state court (which had sided with Marshall's son).
