He's written an urban fantasy series known as the Iron Druid. My friend Dave recommended them to me as "If you like Dresden Files, you'll like these." Well, I've been told that about many authors, the If you like X, you'll like Y, and it just didn't work out. This time, it did.

First, it's set in Phoenix, specifically Tempe. Second, Dave took me to a restaurant/bar prominently mentioned in the book and explained more to me, that helped. Third, it's just a good book. He does a good job dealing with Irish mythology, or so it appears to me. He does a very accurate job of portraying Phoenix and its environs (speaking as a native Phoenician), apparently much more accurate than Butcher's Chicago.

I'm not hugely in to urban fantasy, but it's growing on me. And not many books are page-turners for me, but this one was. I picked it up Wednesday and finished it today, so less than 48 hours to read it. It's not exactly skinny, nor is it 3" thick. Lots of things going on that the main character doesn't know about, and that is handled well since it's written entirely first-person. The series has been around since 2011, there are six books out right now, #7 is due in June with two planned after that, which will end the series (allegedly).

Recommended.

ONE student's parent complained, claiming it was pornographic. Said parent is also pressing the police to arrest the teacher, thus far the police have not arrested the teacher,

Ender's Game is an absolutely incredible book that I would recommend to just about anyone. I read it when it first came out, and though I'm not a huge fan of the subsequent books in the series (and I stopped following them), I definitely consider this a Must Read for any science fiction fan. And I would have no hesitation recommending it to any teenager.

In other education news, a teacher's aide was fired for refusing to give her Facebook password to school administrators. She's suing the school. The interesting thing about this is that someone trying to force you to hand over your password is tat you would be violating your terms of service with Facebook, which could conceivably be illegal.

READ A BOOK! READ A BOOK!
READ A MOTHER-F*ING BOOK!

Brilliant! Lots of N-Bombs, definitely NSFW except through headphones. Well, I suppose there are some Ws where this would be perfectly SF.
