Tonight we took my parents out to dinner: we're in Phoenix for a game convention Saturday/Sunday. Parked on my right was an SUV with this on its back window:



Parked on my left was a car with this on their back window:



You just can't make this stuff up.

I work with an AVID Star Wars person, so avid that she was ranting for days about how the Star Wars 7 movie and producer comments made all the books she had been reading for years no longer canon. She carries a host of Lego Star Wars characters on her keychain and of course is a Storm Trooper every Halloween.

Sheeesh.

It was well known, pretty much since 7 was announced, that they were discarding the Expanded Universe canon.  She has only herself to blame for her disappointment.  Personally, I thought 7 was somewhat disappointing because (a) they had to recap so much material, and (b) they broke physics with such abandon.  But that's just me.  I expected (a), and I never expect (b) to be followed with very much rigor.  I have higher hopes for (a) in 8. I never realized that they don't have girl/women Star Wars window figs with light sabers....

About a decade ago, there was a bumper sticker going around up here: "My Son killed your honor student at Klingon Military Academy"

That's good, I don't recall seeing it. I do remember seeing one for sale at cons that said "My son swindled your son at the Ferengi Commerce Institute", or something along those lines.

There was a very active Klingon chapter up this way in the late 80's/early 90's. They'd even participate in the annual Moxie Festival's parade in full regalia. They had claimed Moxie (tm) in the name of the Empire and it was ranked above prune juice in flavor among them. I was friends with one of them and got a Moxie T-shirt with a Klingon substituted in on the Moxie logo. :)
